El Fall Feast Guey
I had the opportunity and pleasure to attend the 2014 Fall
Feast. It was the first time I had ever attended this magnificent event, and I
was able to learn an immense number of things in regards to science, nature,
the environment, as well as my taste buds. It was also an opportunity for me to
connect with other people who were eager to eat and learn about what they eat.
What better way to bring the student body together than with food.
Upon
arriving, I was amazed to see the variety of foods that were present. More than
anything, I admired the fact that all of these foods were made by students. I
can’t imagine making all of this food all on my own, so my respect to the
people who dedicated much of their time to make these meals for the school.
Where I saw the educational purpose of this event was how I learned about the
healthy ingredients that made this food. Many of the delicious deserts they had
such as macaroons, cupcakes, and carrot cake tasted just as good as if they
were made and processed by unhealthy ingredients such as sugar. It was the
first time I came face to face with a cooked pig. It wasn’t what I expected,
but together with mashed potatoes made it worthwhile.
Additionally,
this would play in to my class in Chemistry of Cooking. Due to Thanksgiving
being upon us, there were numerous foods that were a part of that particular
season. Aside from that, they presented an environmental video in cultivating
distinct types of vegetables as well as how they are more present in our
everyday lives than what we think. If I were to choose my favorite thing out of
the entire feast, I would say the hot baguettes. What I was able to get out of
this event was how it isn’t necessary to buy processed foods in order to get
satisfied. By utilizing mother earth, you have the chance to create something
fresh and delicious. This being my first fall feast, I am tempted to imitate
some of their dishes in order to share this nice experience with my family as
well as to eat healthier.
